Coast-lines :: Irish Museum of Modern Art until 16th September 2018

Drawing on the paradox implicit in the word ‘coastline’ – for never has a coast followed a linear course – the title of this exhibition throws a line around a 12 month programme of changing displays of artworks and archival material that will explore our sense of place, perception, representation and memory. Works by Dorothy Cross, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Clare Langan, Richard Long, Anne Madden, Anita Groener, Michael Mulcahy, Donald Teskey, Tony O’Malley, Alexandra Wejchert, Bridget Riley and others variously explore pattern and line, surface, folds, enclosures, erasures, borders, terrain, the inherent coastal tensions between motion and stillness and any attempt to map what our senses perceive. Others such as Brian O’Doherty, Hamish Fulton, Tim Robinson and OMG collective variously engage photographic, linear, linguistic and coded systems to invoke a mind/body relationship.

The McNay Print Fair is the only event of its kind in the Southwest. More than a dozen dealers from around the U.S. bring thousands of prints, drawings, watercolors, and photographs to show and sell over the course of the two-day fair. The event is a great opportunity for novice and seasoned collectors alike to hone their connoisseurship skills, get to know and learn from respected and informed dealers, and perhaps go home with a newfound treasure.
Participating dealers have something for every taste and budget, from old master prints to contemporary drawings and photography. Over the years, the McNay Print Fair has placed high-quality art in the homes of our community, providing us with a solid and growing collector base. One River, One Creek

Oliver Sears Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of One River, One Creek, an exhibition of new works by Donald Teskey. In the summer of 2017 he began to work on a series of paintings that look at both the intimate elements of the riverbank as well as the broader view. The local perspective (local to the perspective of the artist’s home) allows Teskey to countermand the challenge of plein air painting on the rugged coastline of Mayo and Sligo in order to decode a natural world on his doorstep. This series is reinforced by One Creek, a group of paintings that emerged during the artist’s residency at Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania in the autumn of 2017. Crum Creek passes through the woodlands of Swarthmore, a slow moving waterway with its own sense of wilderness. Donald Teskey has spent a lifetime embedded in the environment that he depicts. Here, two semi domesticated river systems, each with its own unique micro climate fall under his gaze and reappear on canvas and on paper, perfectly measured observations of time and place.
WONDERMENT at the Claremorris Gallery
Wonderment is a group show featuring work by some of Ireland’s most distinguished modern and contemporary painters including Brian Bourke, Barrie Cooke, Michael Farrell, Martin Gale, Bernadette Kiely, Hughie O’Donoghue, Tony O’Malley, Dermot Seymour, Camille Souter, Donald Teskey and Charles Tyrrell. The show comprises large format painting and drawing by a disparate group that hangs together beautifully as an excellent representation of Irish painting. Three of the artists, Micheal Farrell, Tony O’Malley and Barrie Cooke are now deceased but their work lives on. All of the artists in this show have a connection to the town of Claremorris which predates my Gallery. In fact Claremorris Gallery came out of the town’s longstanding association with contemporary art, that found its genesis in the Claremorris Open Exhibition in 1977 as well as the award-winning cultural activity of the George Moore Society. Wonderment is a celebration of small towns with big skies.
The show will run up until Christmas and opens Wednesday to Saturday 1 – 6pm.

Located in a former carriage house in Center City Philadelphia, Dolan/Maxwell specializes in work by artists from the 1930’s to the present. The gallery works closely with the artists and the estates of artists that it represents.
